T.D. Jakes Foundation in Action
To celebrate the end of STEAM Academy 2020, the T.D. Jakes Foundaton produced a closing video with a song, entitled Get Up Get Up There, written by Thadworld and featuring members of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the DSO Young Strings Program with highlights from the STEAM Academy, an amazing five-week virtual learning experience! As the upcoming school year approaches, Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD) is hiring substitute teachers to aid in-person and virtual learning. The candidates must have a minimum of 60 college hours or a bachelor’s degree without the requirement to be certified. Learn more and apply.
Self Care
Education Update
With COVID-19 still on the rise, the Texas Education Agency is giving Texas public school districts the option to keep their campuses closed into the fall by offering online-only instruction for their more than 5 million students. To find the current schedules for the more than 100 North Texas school districts, visit NBC 5’s website.
Child Care
COVID-19 has already put a strain on parents who have lost their previous childcare provider. But with most public schools planning to continue online learning in some form this fall, parents are being forced to improvise. NPR tells us what some families are doing to help support themselves, their jobs, their families, and their children’s academic progression.
Black Lives Matter
In support of a more inclusive campus, the University of Texas at Austin has announced the renaming of Robert Lee Moore Hall, which was named after a UT mathematician who refused to teach Black students.
