Black Lives Matter

Black Lives Matter started as a love letter by Alicia Garza following the George Zimmerman verdict in July 2013. With her letter, Garza was saying that in a society where it feels like Black lives don’t matter; Black lives do in fact matter. #BlackLivesMatter started as a hashtag, but has grown into a rallying cry at protests, online and globally. Read the story in CNN.

In support of a more inclusive campus, the University of Texas at Austin has announced the renaming of Robert Lee Moore Hall, which was named after a UT mathematician who refused to teach Black students. Together, we can and will get through this.
