Diversity and Inclusion
A recent survey found that 76% of job seekers and employees believe a diverse workplace is an important factor, with 32% of respondents saying they would not apply for a job if the company lacked diversity. In response to this growing trend, some job posting sites such as Glassdoor have updated their platforms to allow workers to rate their satisfaction with their current or former employer’s diversity and inclusion policies. A recent op-ed in Fortune calls on employers to view diversity and inclusion as an imperative rather than optional. Julia Taylor Kennedy and Pooja Jain-Liny write that, “…leaders can’t keep treating their companies’ diversity and inclusion (D&I) efforts as extracurricular activities. The lack of diversity and inclusion in the corporate workplace is well-documented, but a new survey from the Hollywood Commission on Eliminating Sexual Harassment and Advancing Equality found that less than half of industry employees believe diversity and inclusion are priorities in Hollywood. This past May, Dallas ISD, Fort Worth ISD, and Univision DFW collaboratively launched the television show “Unidos para Aprender,” a Hispanic educational program hosted by Dallas natives and brothers Freddy and Kevin Perez, who learned themselves to speak English through the Dallas ISD’s bilingual programs.
